The Highlander's Rule
From the movie the Highlander where it is said over and over again:
There can be only one!
The rule of Limited Rewards and Punishments
In any situation, only one person will get credit or blame, no matter how many people are actually involved. Assignment of credit and blame will have more to do with politics and perceptions than actual contributions and responsibility.
This is the first of the “should not exist” principles. It is included because a leader that understands this part of human nature can make sure the leader takes blame upon themselves and gives others the credit for success.
The sure sign of a bad leadership is a leader that takes credit for success and blame others for failure.
Remember: The danger of constantly taking the blame is that eventually someone will believe you.
