I Used to Be…

I used to be afraid of my words
hesitant to speak and more afraid to write
to have ideas lost in the spelling
or twisted in a syntactical dance
by what is deemed correct
trampled by perceptions
ignored by ignorance
misunderstood
lost…

But now I’ve lost that fear
slowly
hesitantly
choosing careful words
and if you understand me
then join in the dance and if not,
well, I now have the courage to dance alone.
